BOAS: How much do you know?

Hello fellow canine lovers! I want to use this post to raise awareness for Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS). This is a commonly found in breeds such as The French Bulldog, British Bulldog and the Pug. Ironically these are currently Britain's most popular breeds of dog!

So what exactly is BOAS you ask? Well BOAS is where dogs have been bred to have a shorter nose and often a shorter skull aswell! Now from the outside this may look very cute but on the inside there is so much tissue that it can cause obstructions such as:

- Protruding Eyes, Very Exposed - Most common in the Pug

- Spinal Injuries due to abnormal vertebrae

One of the main difficulties with this disease is that you could have two of the same breed of dog (for example the French Bulldog) that look very similar but you will have one with dreadful breathing and the other one could have perfect breathing, which means you cant always look at a dog and assume they will be fine!

Unfortunately behaviours that seem cute to people such as snoring are not cute the are in fact signs of obstruction in the dog.

For more information please watch the video below which is where I sourced all of my information, it is so factual and makes you realise how serious this can be to dogs!

Help our four legged friends by making more people aware of BOAS!
